Several Family Support staff members were able to attend the 2009 Bridge Conference in Vancouver, Washington on October 19th and 20th. Generous support from Schools Out Washington and the Northshore/Shoreline Network made our attendance possible.

The theme of the conference was Being a Catalyst for Innovative Change. The conference sparked our creative thinking about how we can continue to implement effective after school and summer programs for children who live in the Shoreline and Northshore communities.
Some of the sessions we attended included:

  • Organic Organizing: The Food Education, Empowerment & Sustainability Team Model
  • Homework Help! Supporting Student Learning During Homework Time
  • Bridging Multiple Worlds: Creating Environments Where Young People Thrive
  • Minding the Adolescent Brain: Bridging Science to Policy and Practice

CHS is currently serving 155 school-age youth at our after school programs. We are looking forward to sharing our learning with them.
